The top 10 best UK movies revealed – three made by the same director

IMDb has revealed a list of the 10 best UK movies ranging from a spy genre to comedy horror series, with three of them directed by the same person. A 2014-made film, Kingsman: The Secret Service has secured the top spot on the list.

It is a stylish spy action comedy film directed by Matthew Vaughn, marking the beginning of the Kingsman film franchise. Released in 2015, the movie is based on the comic book series The Secret Service, created by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons and published by Millarworld. The story was born from a concept developed jointly by Millar and Vaughn, blending classic espionage tropes with modern flair and irreverent humour.

The film follows a secret intelligence agency that recruits a street-smart young man into its elite training program, delivering high-octane action, sharp wit, and a fresh twist on the traditional spy genre.

However, one director who stood out among the list was Edgar Wright, whose three movies have made it to the top 10 list.

Born on 18 April 1974, Mr Wright is a celebrated English filmmaker known for his energetic and satirical approach to genre cinema. His signature style includes dynamic editing techniques—such as whip pans, wipes, and rapid transitions—alongside expressive use of popular music and inventive camera work like Steadicam shots and dolly zooms.

Mr Wright began his career making independent short films, eventually directing his first feature, A Fistful of Fingers, in 1995. He later co-created the comedy series Asylum with David Walliams and gained wider recognition with the cult sitcom Spaced (1999–2001), which starred his frequent collaborators Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.

His breakthrough in film came with Shaun of the Dead (2004), a zombie comedy that launched the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy. Co-written with Pegg, the trilogy continued with Hot Fuzz (2007), a buddy cop satire, and concluded with The World’s End (2013), a sci-fi comedy exploring themes of nostalgia and adulthood—all showcasing Wright’s distinctive blend of humor, genre homage, and visual flair.
