A stunning island that boasts lush rainforests, volcanic landscapes, and abundant natural hot springs has been named the “best” to visit in 2025.

Dominica, an island nation in the Caribbean is often called the “Nature Island of the Caribbean” due to its diverse flora and fauna.

The island that BBC Travel has crowned the “best” experiences perfect, mild weather in February, with a maximum temperature of 30C.

It is a paradise for eco-tourism, adventure seekers, and nature lovers. It offers volcanic landscapes, rainforests, waterfalls, hot springs, and world-class diving spots.

Unlike many other Caribbean islands, Dominica is less commercialised, making it a perfect destination for those seeking an authentic, nature-focused experience.

Dominica is home to nine volcanoes, with eight dormant and one active, forming the island’s rugged backbone. Among its volcanic wonders is Boiling Lake, the world’s second-largest hot spring lake, a steaming, water-filled crater heated by geothermal activity beneath the surface.

Accessible via a challenging four-hour hike (best undertaken with an expert guide), this natural marvel will soon be more easily reached by a cable car currently under construction. Spanning 4.1 miles over the scenic Roseau Valley, the cable car is expected to be completed by late 2025.

According to its official website, Dominica is one of the best locations in the Caribbean for scuba diving, with its clear, calm Caribbean waters, pristine coral reefs, volcanic fumaroles and world-class wall dives.

The Soufrière-Scott’s Head Marine Reserve is located on the south-western tip, encompassing the villages of Scott’s Head and Soufrière; in recent years, the area has become a popular base for freediving, with the World Freediving Championships held there in November 2024.

Several luxury resorts are on the island, including Secret Bay, Jungle Bay, and Rosalie Bay Resort.

Jungle Bay is set in 19 acres on the south-west coast, just 20 minutes from the capital of Roseau, and close to Soufrière and Scotts Head for scuba diving.

Its website claimed that’s everal new hotels and eco resorts are currently under construction in Dominica. The Sanctuary Rainforest Eco Resort and Spa is due to open by the end of 2025. Located in Laudat, in the Roseau valley, 72 luxury villas will nestle in lush vegetation with a treetop bar, riverside walkway, infinity pool and spa.

British Airways or American Airlines offer flights from the UK via Miami, Barbados, or Antigua, with a connecting onward flight to Dominica.
