Peace lilies are a beautiful choice of houseplant, and their dark green leaves and white flowers look stunning in any home.
Although they’re fairly low-maintenance and suitable for beginners, they can be quite dramatic, and the white blooms may not appear as regularly as you want them to.
However, it’s not always a sign that your plant is on the verge of dying.
In fact, there’s a very easy task that everyone can do with their peace lilies that takes just one minute and can encourage more flowers to bloom.
That’s according to the gardening experts at Succulents Box on TikTok, who often share easy plant care tips to help people improve their green-fingered skills.
In a recent video, they delved into some of the reasons why your peace lily may not be flowering, with one very common issue that could be the culprit.
If your home tends to get dusty, then this could be why you’re not seeing flowers appear on your peace lily plant, according to the experts.
They said: “Dust can block light and hinder photosynthesis.”
Photosynthesis is the process by which plants convert the energy from sunlight into the kind of energy that can be stored for later use, such as producing flowers.
Even the thinnest layer of dust on your peace lily leaves can prevent this process from happening, so in order to keep them as healthy as possible, you should be wiping the leaves clean regularly.
The experts explained: “Keep the leaves clean by gently wiping them with a damp cloth to help your plant absorb more light.”
However, this isn’t the only reason why your peace lily may be struggling to bloom.
The experts also highlighted that peace lilies thrive best when they’re in humid environments.
So if the air is particularly dry at home – a common problem during the winter – then giving it a mist with water can be a huge help.
Also, storing them in naturally humid environments like the bathroom is another excellent way to keep your peace lily healthy with plenty of flowers. According to the experts at The Joy of Plants, peace lilies can thrive in low-light environments, so the bathroom could be the perfect spot for them.
