This beautiful part of Italy is not a popular tourist destination but it is a hidden gem in the country.

Modena, the foodie town of Emilia-Romagna is a top destination to visit in Italy and it can be seen in just a weekend.

The town of Modena is located between Bologna and Parma – it is small but there are plenty of things to do and see in the area.

It is around an hour away from Florence so if you’re planning to make multiple stops on your Italy trip, you could easily combine your stay with a trip to this city too.

On her blog, Solo Sophie says: “For the foodie travellers out there, there are so many good things to eat in Modena.

“From Prosciutto di Modena to Parmigiana Reggiano to traditional balsamic vinegar, which is all locally made in Modena.

“You can even taste some of the best balsamic vinegar for yourself in Modena in a little shop on Piazza Giuseppe Mazzini.”

One of the main attractions in the area is Duomo di Modena – the stunning cathedral is a focal point of the town.

A visitor on Tripadvisor said: “A wonderful place in the heart of Modena that will enchant you with its beautiful icons, statues and grandiose interior.

“In the cathedral is also the tomb of Saint Geminiano, the patron saint of Modena! A place that is really worth visiting!”

Another crucial part of Modena’s history is that the founder of Ferrari, Enzo was born there.

You can visit Museo Casa Ezno Ferrari (Enzo Ferrari’s Birthplace Museum) which includes the restored house where he was born and a new futuristic automotive design gallery.

A visitor on Tripadvisor said: “A beautiful way to spend an hour seeming where it all started.”

The guest added: “The local town is beautiful too. Well worth exploring too.”

If you’re hoping to book a European getaway, Modena is the perfect place to head to for a few days.
