With summer weather on the way, you might be trying to think of the best place to enjoy the heat in the UK – and where’s better than a beach? But the often overcrowded coast can be a difficult place to find a quiet spot to enjoy. Luckily, there’s one spot that might make the perfect holiday location and it’s one visitors can’t get enough of.

Shanklin town in the Isle of Wight is known for its quiet coastal scenery and its flawless beaches. The tranquil location is a great place to enjoy a staycation if you’re not planning on heading abroad this year.

One person said on Tripadvisor: “The sandy beach is absolutely spotless, the water clean, the views lovely and we had a great day chilling. Plenty of options for places to get snacks, drinks and treats, if required. We walked along the beach towards the cliffs and found the crowds thinned out a lot. Had a wonderful day that didn’t cost the earth!”

According to Visit Isle of Wight, Shanklin is home to a thriving town centre with a host of independent shops, restaurants and pubs. It even has its own theatre.

Shanklin is steeped in history, it was once the home of English Romantic Poet John Keats and it also played an important role in World War 2.

While you’re there, you can stroll along the sea front where you’ll be able to enjoy the scenery or people watch while in one of the local pubs or cafes.

One must-visit place in the area is Shanklin Chine which is a historic gorge. Tripadvisor read: “The stunning tree lined Chine cuts its way from Shanklin Old Village to the sandy beach and Esplanade far below.

“Visitors can enjoy the splendour of Shanklin Chine by day and wonder at its mystical beauty from dusk, when hundreds of lights illuminate the narrow paths, streams and waterfalls.”

If you want to get out into nature and enjoy the natural beauty of this green spot, it’s one that continually leaves its visitors in awe.

For a peaceful yet pleasant break in the UK, Shanklin is an area worth exploring.
