The pretty little village where you can buy a house for just £1 | World | News

A stunning French village is offering you the chance to buy a dream house for just one euro as part of a wider plan to prevent its population from dwindling. Ambert, a rural commune with just 6,500 people, is looking for more people to join its local community.

Located in southeast France, the village has joined the list of European villages that are offering houses at bargain prices. However, to purchase these houses, one has to meet certain criteria- and it’s not easy.  According to the reports, the cheap homes can only be purchased by first-time buyers, and second-time buyers are prohibited from participating in the scheme. The buyers also have to commit to staying in the home full-time for at least three years.

Those who are willing to purchase a one-euro house in Ambert must commit to living in the property full-time for at least three years once it’s been made habitable, reports The Local. Failing to do so can cause a risk to their financial penalties, including the repayment of any government grants given for refurbishment works.

Buyers must live in the renovated home for a few years and can’t sell it immediately. If they do, they might have to pay back any grants or financial support they were given.

However, the houses also have a few drawbacks. One of them is that they need a lot of repairs—everything from the roof to the wiring.

Because they need so much work, buyers might have to submit a plan explaining what they will fix and how long it will take.

The living room is extremely cluttered—so much so that the carpet is completely hidden beneath heaps of broken furniture and scattered trash.

Among the mess, there’s a framed picture of Jesus resting on the floor. The space is also strewn with vinyl records, CDs, and board games, adding to the chaotic scene, reports Mirror Online.

Last year, a house in Saint-Amand-Montrond, France, was listed for just one euro as part of a plan to bring more long-term residents to the town, which has around 9,000 people.

The house offered decent space—two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, a toilet, a larger bathroom, a courtyard, and a garage. But there was one big drawback: it needed a full renovation.
