The pretty little island just three hours from UK that’s 21C in November | Europe | Travel

A gorgeous European island with a rich past, amazing scenery, and a lively culture is one of the best places to visit in the coming colder months. Malta, one of Europe’s most captivating island nations is a small archipelago in the Mediterranean, just south of Sicily.

The Mediterranean’s tiny treasure experiences almost 300 days of sunshine, with temperatures reaching 21C in November. It offers sunny beaches, ancient temples, and plenty to see and do, making it a favourite spot for travellers. In November, the sun graces the skies for around seven hours each day, offering plenty of time for outdoor activities and sightseeing. Moderate humidity levels add to the comfort, making the climate feel fresh and enjoyable.

Its capital, Valletta, is a UNESCO World Heritage city known for its grand Baroque architecture and breathtaking sea views. Beyond the main island, Gozo offers a quieter, greener escape with ancient temples, while Comino is famous for its crystal-clear Blue Lagoon.

Interestingly, Malta’s past is shaped by many civilisations—including the Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, the Knights of St. John, and the British—which is reflected in its diverse food, language, and architecture.

With Maltese and English as official languages, it’s easy for visitors to navigate.  Local dishes like pastizzi, rabbit stew, and fresh seafood are culinary highlights.

Travellers can also explore prehistoric temples older than the pyramids, stroll through the medieval streets of Mdina, dive into underwater shipwrecks, or unwind on sandy beaches like Golden Bay.

Calling it an “interesting island”, one of the users wrote on TripAdvisor: “Great place for a holiday. This time, it’s my third visit.  I went to the Silent City. What an interesting place, full of history, and yet still a living city.

“Great places to eat, fantastic views, and a sense of this has been here for thousands of years. Well worth the time to visit, and worth repeat visits too which you can not always say about everywhere.”

Another one commented: “If you are looking for an out of the ordinary place to travel to then this should definitely be on your list! I flew from Rome to Malta. The island is pristine and beautiful. The people are friendly and very laid back. Malta is not the place to be if you are in a hurry so if you are going on a tour get an early start as nothing moves quickly in Malta. It is a little on the expensive side but well worth it.”

A third user said: “Malta is a place I go to nearly every year. I first went when my children were small and we were looking for somewhere warm with good beaches that weren’t too expensive. An added bonus is that everyone speaks English.

“We still return to the north of the island because it is quieter than the south. There is something for everyone: prehistoric temples and caves, beautiful churches and architecture, water sports and safe beaches for swimming, an incredible history including the important part that the Maltese people played in W.W.2, great food and drink, night-life for those who want it and most of all there is very little crime and you feel safe wherever you go.”
