Thriller fans will be happy to learn that a movie from the popular genre has been rating highly on Rotten Tomatoes and billed as Blumhouse’ best movie of the year. The American film and television production company’s film Drop, directed by Christopher Landon – who has made some classic horror hits, has shined, despite it being a mixed bag for the thriller genre releases this year. Drop stars Meghann Fahy, Brandon Sklenar, Violett Beane, and Jeffery Self and it tells the story of widowed mother trying to get back into dating.

The film’s synopsis reads: “Emmy nominee Meghann Fahy, breakout star of White Lotus and The Perfect Couple, plays Violet, a widowed mother on her first date in years, who arrives at an upscale restaurant where she is relieved that her date, Henry (It Ends with Us’ Brandon Sklenar) is more charming and handsome than she expected. But their chemistry begins to curdle as Violet begins being irritated and then terrorised by a series of anonymous drops to her phone. She is instructed to tell nobody and follow instructions or the hooded figure she sees on her home security cameras will kill Violet’s young son and babysitting sister. Violet must do exactly as directed or everyone she loves will die. Her unseen tormentor’s final directive? Kill Henry.”

Critics and fans alike have praised this movie with the critics of Rotten Tomatoes ranking the film at a solid 84%. Their consensus states: “A Hitchcockian thriller that cleverly utilizes modern technology for its twists and turns, Drop delivers on its pulpy premise while providing a welcome showcase for leading lady Meghann Fahy.”

One critic said: “It’s an expertly paced affair that showcases Landon’s unique directorial eye, as well as a roster of superb performances.”

Other critics have billed it a good film that is slightly tired towards it’s ending, with one stating: “A potent combination of Red Eye, Fresh and It Ends With Us (thanks largely to the presence of Sklenar), Drop is a single-room chiller filled with twists and turns that will leave you exhilarated, but exhausted by its end.”

One fan said the film “kept them guessing”, with another adding that they “absolutely loved this film”.

Drop is available for purchase on Amazon Prime.
