The one word in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s statement that set alarm bells ringing | Royal | News

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle issued a dramatic public statement in January 2020 when they announced their decision to step back from their senior Royal Family roles and move abroad to a Commonwealth country. It was a single word within that statement that sent a “collective shiver down the spine of Buckingham Palace,” a royal expert has claimed.

Announcing their decision to step back from their position as senior working royals, the couple concluded: “We will continue to collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and all relevant parties.” Rebecca English, royal editor of the Daily Mail, said that a well-placed palace source claimed that alarm bells rang over one word. They told the expert: “No-one ‘collaborates’ with the Queen. This is not one of those ‘Kate Moss Top Shop tie-ups’.”

The source added: “This is exactly why Queen Elizabeth knew this whole half-in, half-out version of royalty they were lobbying for was never, ever going to work. Harry and Meghan were a law unto themselves from the start, pushing and pushing the envelope to their own professional and financial advantage.”

Another source said: “Her Late Majesty was nobody’s fool and knew that the chances were, it would all end in disaster.”

Harry and Meghan also declared in their statement that they would work to “become financially independent” and spoke of carving out a “progressive new role” within the institution.

The royal expert wrote how “King Charles has, sadly, had no option but to stick to his current course and cut his youngest son loose”, referencing the busy engagements the Royal Family have conducted over the past few days.

Prince William visited Wattisham flying station near Suffolk to meet with men and women from the Army Air Corps (AAC) in his role as their Colonel-in-Chief, whereas Queen Camilla highlighted the British flower industry at the Garden Museum in London and attended a charity engagement at Canary Wharf.

Meanwhile, the Duchess of Edinburgh was speaking about the plight of victims and survivors of sexual violence in conflict at a landmark exhibition.

It comes as Meghan Markle has been showcasing her family life on Instagram on her personal page as the family celebrate Princess Lilibet’s fourth birthday.

After posting images of Lilibet with Meghan and Prince Harry, Meghan also posted a video of her dancing and twerking in a hospital room while waiting for the birth of her daughter. The video, which was shared on Instagram, shows Prince Harry and Meghan dancing in a hospital where Lilibet is believed to have been born.

The clip has been met with mixed reactions, with many fans left speechless at the video of the couple, who quit royal life just a year before it was filmed in 2020.

Meghan also enjoyed a trip to Disney World with Prince Harry, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet and posted a video montage of the family enjoying their two-day trip to the amusement park.
