The one breakfast mishap that ‘ruins’ Brits’ mornings

Cereal enthusiasts have a mere three-minute window to eat their cereal before it succumbs to sogginess, according to a recent survey.

A poll involving 2,000 adults discovered that while 48% eat a bowl of cereal most mornings, but 32% confess to fretting over their breakfast becoming limp due to an excess of milk.

While this ruins breakfast time for many, for 15%, starting the day with a soggy bowl of cereal is enough to spoil their entire morning.

Yet, while 51% insist their cereal should retain its crunch for optimal enjoyment, some actually relish the soggy texture – with 14% admitting they enjoy their cereal thoroughly soaked in milk.

The research was commissioned by Kellogg’s to mark the launch of Oaties – a new oat based cereal.

Food scientists have spent the last 18 months developing the cereal and have created what is believed to be the first ‘sog-defying’ cereal, thanks to its unique shape and high fibre ingredients.

Seven out of ten parents agreed that cereal makes the morning routine easier for them and their children as they’re able to serve up breakfast quickly.

Another 49% admitted it’s one of the few meals their youngsters genuinely enjoy.

The research also revealed that nine out of ten Brits pour dairy milk on their cereal. Oat milk has been tried by 38%, almond milk by 33%, and 18% have even considered using hot chocolate.

Cereal toppings are evolving with 13% contemplating the addition of ice cream, 10% considering avocado, and 8% toying with unconventional options like cheese or even a hard-boiled egg.

Yet, classic toppings remain popular, with 33% choosing fresh fruit, 23% preferring a drizzle of honey, and 21% mixing in yoghurt.

Meanwhile, 7% have been incorporating protein powder into their breakfast for a vigorous kick-start to their day.
