This thriller has been billed by as the “best book of the year” by Amazon and fans describe it as “life-changing”. Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy is a mystery thriller that was originally published in March earlier this year.

Amazon Books Editors have helmed the book as the best of the year so far. Sarah Gelman, Amazon Books’ editorial director, said: “Over thousands of hours, we read across genres from authors both new and established, searching for the very best books that make us smile, think, cry, cringe, and pique our sense of wonder. Our top pick of the year so far, Wild Dark Shore, is a novel that masterfully evoked each of these emotions in our team, and beautifully highlights the imperfections of human nature even when we have the best intentions.”

The book synopsis reads: “Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy tells the story of Rowan, who washes up on Shearwater Island, a remote research station housing a global seed bank, during a violent storm.

“She is rescued by Dominic and his three children, the last inhabitants of the island as it faces rising sea levels. As Rowan recovers, secrets are revealed, including sabotaged radios and a fresh grave, hinting at dark pasts and hidden truths.”

Themes of grief, loss, and the choices humans make in the face of environmental devastation, are weaved throughout the book.

Wild Dark Shore has 4.22 out of five stars on Goodreads, with one reviewer claiming “this book just changed my life”.

“I would give this book 100 stars if Goodreads let me,” another added.

A Goodreads reviewer said: “Absolutely obsessed with this book and also bawling my eyes out. I’m not sure I’ll ever get over this one.”

A reader wrote in their Google review: “One of the best books in a while. I was crying half the time listening to this book on audio. Beautifully written and heart wrenching.”

Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy is available to purchase in print or ebook on Amazon.
