The year so far has proved to be an exceptional hit for cinema, and we still have four months to go. With films such as Sinners, Weapons and Materialists having graced our screens, it has shown that since the pandemic, the film industry has continued to thrive. However, it can be said that the second half of 2025 is looking like it could beat the first half of the year’s cinematic offerings. Here are the most highly anticipated films of 2025, still to come. I have highlighted five films that I am highly anticipating, but the full list of cinema releases is below. Here are my top five, and it includes a period classic.

Caught Stealing – August 29

Caught Stealing is a crime thriller film produced and directed by Darren Aronofsky, and it is based on Huston’s book of the same name. The film stars Austin Butler, Regina King, Zoë Kravitz, and Matt Smith. The film’s synopsis reads: “When his punk-rock neighbour asks him to take care of his cat for a few days, New York City bartender Hank Thompson suddenly finds himself caught in the middle of a motley crew of threatening gangsters who all want a piece of him.”

A Big Bold Beautiful Journey – September 19

A Big Bold Beautiful Journey is a romantic fantasy film directed by Kogonada and written by Seth Reiss. It stars Margot Robbie, Colin Farrell, Kevin Kline, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. The film’s synopsis reads: “Through a surprising twist of fate, single strangers Sarah and David get to relive important moments from their respective pasts, illuminating how they got to where they are in the present.”

Frankenstein – November 7

The film’s synopsis reads: “Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein is an upcoming Netflix film set for a limited theatrical release on October 17, 2025, with a full release on November 7, 2025. The film stars Jacob Elordi as Frankenstein’s Monster and Oscar Isaac as Dr. Frankenstein, with Mia Goth and Christoph Waltz also in the cast. Del Toro aims to create a “Miltonian tragedy” that captures the spirit of Mary Shelley’s novel, focusing on themes of fatherhood, the creature’s isolation, and a father-son relationship, rather than a traditional horror film.”

Die, My Love – November 14

Die, My Love is a psychological dark comedy-drama film directed by Lynne Ramsay, from a screenplay by Ramsay, Enda Walsh and Alice Birch. Based on the novel of the same name by Argentine writer Ariana Harwicz, the film stars Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson, with Lawrence also producing. The film’s synopsis reads: “In a remote forgotten rural area, a mother struggles to maintain her sanity as she battles with psychosis.”

Marty Supreme – January 1

Marty Supreme is a sports adventure comedy-drama film directed by Josh Safdie, who co-wrote it alongside Ronald Bronstein. The film stars and is co-produced by Timothée Chalamet, with Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary, Tyler Okonma, Abel Ferrara, and Fran Drescher in supporting roles. It is an A24 movie scheduled to be released in the US on December 25. The film’s synopsis reads: “In the 1950s, young Marty Mauser pursues his dream of becoming a champion table-tennis player.”
