The Legend of Zelda live-action film cast: Where you’ve seen the two leads before

The Legend of Zelda live-action film has finally found its two leads and fans will be eager to see the pair in action as Princess Zelda and the young hero, Link.

Based on one of the most popular video game franchises of all time, Nintendo is partnering up with Sony Pictures and The Maze Runner director Wes Ball to bring the epic fantasy adventure to the big screen.

Ahead of the blockbuster coming to cinemas in May 2027, Nintendo’s game director Shigeru Miyamoto took to X (formerly Twitter) to make the announcement.

“This is Miyamoto,” he wrote. “I am pleased to announce that for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda, Zelda will be played by Bo Bragason-san, and Link by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth-san.

“I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen.”

He then attached images of both Bragason and Ainsworth, presumably in costume as the two iconic heroes against a leafy backdrop.

But who are Bo Bragason and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, and where might fans have seen them before?

Bo Bragason

English actress Bo Bragason was born in Chichester, West Sussex in 2004 and has an acting career since 2017.

The young rising star landed her first major on-screen role in the BBC miniseries Three Girls, where she portrayed Rachel Winshaw.

She has since landed main roles in the series The Jetty and Renegade Nell as well as appearing in the films Censor and The Radleys.

However, despite scoring her first speaking part in 2017, her acting experience actually started a decade previously.

Bragason’s first screen credit was as a toddler in the French-language film Hidden Love, which starred Isabelle Huppert and Mélanie Laurent.

The role possibly came about as she grew up in Luxembourg for seven years as a child, as well as three years in the south of France.

Additionally, The Legend of Zelda won’t be Bragason’s first experience with a major video game franchise as she previously provided the motion capture for Young Luna in the animated film Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV.

Benjamin Evan Ainsworth

Another young British star, 16-year-old Ainsworth was born in Nottingham in 2008 and grew up in the Yorkshire village of Lund.

He has been a regular fixture on screens since 2018, when he landed a small role in the popular ITV soap Emmerdale.

Ainsworth is perhaps most recognisable to viewers as Miles Wingrave from Netflix’s smash-hit horror series The Haunting of Bly Manor.

He has also starred in the films Flora & Ulysses, All Fun and Games and Everything’s Going to Be Great, as well as providing the voice of Pinocchio in Disney’s live-action remake of the animated classic.

Back on the small screen, the up-and-coming actor has also starred in main roles in Canadian comedy Son of a Critch, as Alex Burgess in an episode of The Sandman and played Willy in Maya the Bee.

The Legend of Zelda will be released in cinemas on 7th May, 2027.
