This road trip is one of the most famous in the UK and with its incredible views, it’s no surprise.

Scotland’s North Coast 500 is the ultimate UK road trip – it starts and ends at the famous Inverness castle.

You can still travel on the route in winter, and many do, but if you plan to complete this route in the colder months, you should make sure you are prepared.

While the route is well trodden and sometimes overcrowded, it spans a huge stretch of Scotland meaning you’ll have plenty of space to explore away from other tourists – with the beaches rivalling some of the best in the world.

You’ll pass through the Black Isle, Easter Ross, Caithness, Sutherland, Wester Ross and Inverness – one of Britain’s tiniest cities home to only around 80,000 people.

Along the way, you’ll encounter stunning coastal scenery, white sandy beaches, rugged mountains, remote fishing villages, hidden gems, and a wealth of unforgettable experiences.

Whether you’re looking for an action-packed break, a chance to relax or simply want to see more of the North Highlands’ breath-taking scenery, you are sure to find it on this route.

One person who completed the trip on Tripadvisor said: “Once we learned about the North Coast 500, famed for its breathtaking landscapes, warm-hearted locals, and deep historical roots, we instantly knew it was the perfect destination for our honeymoon.

“Excited by tales of its rugged coastlines and scenic vistas, we set aside two weeks to explore the UK, dedicating the bulk of our adventure to traversing this renowned route.

“The NC500 offered an unforgettable journey through the heart of Scotland’s heritage, serving up views that were nothing short of spectacular.”

If you’re hoping to get out on the route, most travellers take between five and seven days to complete this epic journey. For those who have less time but still want to embark on an adventure, you can complete part of the route instead.
