The gorgeous city best in the world to visit in 2025 – better than Paris | Travel News | Travel

Paris, Prague and Berlin are all perennial favourites for travellers, each offering iconic sights, rich history, and vibrant culture. Yet, according to the latest survey by Condé Nast Traveller, the undisputed top city to visit in Europe in 2025 isn’t one of these sprawling capitals. Instead, the crown goes to a smaller, sun-soaked city that might not immediately come to mind: Valletta, Malta.

Condé Nast Traveller annually asks its readers to vote on the destinations they’ve visited, calculating an overall satisfaction score based on the percentage of respondents who had a positive experience. With surveys reaching around 500,000 people, the results reflect the preferences of a significant and diverse travel audience. This year, Valletta scored an impressive 97.3 percent approval rating, beating out far larger and more famous cities like Paris and New York.

The appeal of Valletta lies in its combination of history, architecture, and Mediterranean charm. The city is famed for its golden-hued Baroque buildings, narrow streets, and historic landmarks that make strolling through the city a feast for the senses.

From the majestic St. John’s Co-Cathedral to the bustling Grand Harbour, Valletta offers a cultural richness that belies its small size. It’s a city that can be explored on foot, allowing visitors to soak up its atmosphere at a leisurely pace, something often difficult in larger capitals.

In addition to its architectural and historical appeal, Valletta enjoys pleasant Mediterranean weather, making it an attractive destination year-round.

Unlike more heavily touristed spots, it provides a sense of tranquillity while still offering excellent dining, vibrant local markets, and scenic waterfront views.

For travellers seeking an alternative to southern Italy, the Canary Islands, or other Mediterranean hotspots, Valletta presents a perfect blend of charm, accessibility, and authenticity.

This accolade is not just about aesthetics. The high approval rating reflects how much visitors enjoy their time there, from the friendliness of locals to the ease of navigating the city.

In a world where travel options are abundant, Valletta proves that smaller cities can deliver big experiences.

As travel in 2025 continues to recover and expand, Valletta is firmly establishing itself as a must-visit European destination, reminding travellers that sometimes, the most unforgettable trips are found off the beaten path.
