Princess Kate has some staple items in her wardrobe, particularly the Breton tops she has worn multiple times over the last decade, styling it in many different ways.
The Princess of Wales was most recently seen in a “timeless” Ralph Lauren ‘Tori’ striped long-sleeve t-shirt during a good luck message to Team GB during the Paris Olympics in the summer.
The Princess has several colours and styles of Breton tops which are characterised by their horizontal stripes and iconic boatneck.
Kate owns this look from different brands in various colours and fabrics, including wool, cotton and cashmere. In the Olympics video, the Princess wore her favoured £139 Ralph Lauren Breton – the fourth time she has showed it off in public.
And while it might be expected that her outfits come with a hefty price tag, some of these Breton tops come in affordable prices, from the likes of brands such as ME+EM and J.Crew, with some other cheaper alternatives online for those looking for dupes.
ME+EM, £49
Kate has been loyal to Breton tops for more than ten years. In 2014, she wore a Breton jersey when making a surprise appearance at the Jaurong Polo match in Gloucestershire to cheer on her husband William.
She debuted the then £48 ME+EM Breton top on the Royal Tour of Australia and New Zealand in April during a sailing trip. The Princess’s collection includes three variations by ME+EM, costing £49 each.
J.Crew, £65
Kate also has a selection of J.Crew striped tops, including the Tippi sweater which is available in multiple colours and patterns.
The Princess is one for understated styles and is loyal to what works for her, and so her versions include an ivory and navy striped knit decorated with buttons at the shoulders, which she wore at the 2016 launch of the Heads Together campaign.
Luisa Spagnoli Muvi pullover, £215
This striped look comes at a more steep price compared to the rest of Kate’s Breton wardrobe and hails from Italian brand Luisa Spagnoli.
Featuring a gradient striped pattern in shades of red and navy, the top was shown off by the Princess during the Heads Together marathon reception in 2017.
M.i.h Jeans Drew Breton sweater, £250
Princess Kate wore this fit several times during informal engagements throughout 2017.
Part of the M.i.h Jeans pre-Autumn/Winter 2016 collection, this merino wool marinière sweater features white and navy stripes.
Belstaff Britannia Drey T-shirt, £95
Princess Kate has shared various good luck messages to UK athletes, including during the INEOS Team UK as they embarked on their America’s Cup challenge.
In a video message, Kate layered a Belstaff windbreaker jacket over a pure cotton Breton tee, also by the British brand, which was made to support INEOS Team UK.
