With London’s transport system now being the most expensive in the world, you’ll be pleased to hear that in this beautiful European country, you can travel for just £1.60 a day. For £48 a month, the Deutschlandticket (or “Germany Ticket”), which works out to about £1.60 per day, allows you to travel anywhere in Germany, excluding the fast trains. The ticket lets you discover vibrant cities like Berlin, Munich, and Cologne, with unlimited access to local trams, buses, and trains.

The ticket covers all local transport, including trams, buses, and even ferries. Once bought, you won’t need to plan individual trips or buy separate tickets, meaning that you can hop on and off any non-express train or bus, making it a easy way to visit Germany.

Whether you’re exploring from the Baltic coast to the Black Forest, enjoying scenic routes, or visiting vibrant cities like Cologne, Munich, and Berlin, the ticket enables you to travel across Germany without having to navigate complex fare systems and having to purchase a new ticket every time you travel.

Berlin has previously been crowned as the city with the world’s best public transport, according to Time Out, with 97% of Berliners praising their city’s reliable, safe, and comfortable transport network.

You can purchase the ticket only within the first 10 days of the month, and it operates on a subscription basis, meaning you will automatically be charged each subsequent month once you’ve signed up.

If you’re only visiting for a short period, you can easily cancel the subscription before the next payment cycle begins, ensuring that you only pay for the month you plan to use it.

Once purchased, the ticket can be purchased through the Deutsche Bahn (DB) app, the German national railway service. This provides a straightforward and easy way to plan your trip ahead of time.

You’ll also receive an email with a “CANCEL SUBSCRIPTION” link, and once confirmed, you’ll be assured that no further payments will be taking place.

The ticket is valid on regional trains like RB, RE, and S-Bahn, but not on high-speed trains such as ICE, IC, or EC.

This means that while you can travel across Germany on regional and local routes, longer, faster journeys may require additional tickets.
