Spring officially starts later this week and millions of Brits will be planning to clean up their homes. Although spring cleaning often involves throwing things away, some items can actually help to organise the mess.
Over 90% of people across the UK are expected to spring clean in the coming weeks. Space-saving experts from Suffolk Pocket Door Company have shared a top tip to help people de-clutter their homes.
Carl Benson said cleaners should opt to keep, and not throw out, shoe boxes. He explained that homeowners can organise their drawers using the recycled boxes.
Carl said: “Whilst many people keep hold of shoe boxes for storing shoes, or ‘just in case’, they have a brilliant practical use that many of our customers are shocked when I share. I advise that they’re perfect for organised drawer spaces by creating a divide for each item category.
“It’s very common for us Brits to use a utensil tray for kitchen drawers to try and organise our cutlery, and these shoe boxes are the perfect way to make every drawer equally organised, Don’t waste your money purchasing more containers until you’ve tried this – if it works, you can always upgrade to more aesthetic boxes in a few months.”
To begin with, homeowners should remove all items from a cluttered drawer before discarding any unwanted items. They should then categorise what’s left and arrange the items into empty shoe boxes. You can then clean the drawer so that it’s ready for the new season.
However, Carl warns that the tip is only useful for spring cleaning if you have space to fit the shoe boxes. They should be stacked away neatly to avoid cluttering.
Carl added: “Where this would not work, is a cupboard where boxes can be stacked or the boxes don’t fit snugly, such as under a sink. You should be able to see what is in each box, with ease, for this method to be effective.”
