Do crime novels and holidays go together? Some might say it takes you away from relaxing and unwinding, while others would say it is that pure escapism that gets you to the point of relaxation. But what thriller is going to compliment your holiday the most? The Goodreads readers have had their say and decided that this thriller novel is the  best of the genre to read while taking a trip.

Lucy Foley’s The Guest List, first published in 2020 has been granted the top spot on Goodreads Vacation Thriller Books. The book’s synopsis reads: “The Guest List by Lucy Foley is a thrilling mystery set on a remote Irish island during the wedding of Jules Keegan and Will Slater. As a storm rages, trapping the guests, a dead body is discovered, and everyone becomes a suspect. The story unravels through multiple perspectives, revealing secrets and hidden motives among the wedding party and their families.”

The book explores themes of jealousy, betrayal, as well as the dark side of seemingly perfect lives. The Guest List has become a New York Times, Sunday Times and Washington Post bestseller and won Goodreads Choice Award for Mystery and Thrillers in 2020. Foley has written several other books including Midnight Feast, The Paris Apartment, and The Hunting Party.

Fans have awarded the book 3.8 out of five stars with one stating they “devoured it” and another adding it was their “choice for best thriller”.

Another reviewer commented: “This was the thriller I have been waiting for and I absolutely loved it.”

One reviewer recommended the book and said: “The Guest List is a fun, fast-paced, guessing game of a read; perfect for fans of Dame Agatha Christie, or Ruth Ware.”

“Lucy Foley follows The Hunting Party with this even more hugely entertaining atmospheric murder mystery, a modern take on Agatha Christie, set on the wild and isolated Cormorant Island, off the west coast of Ireland”, another added.
