There has been an abundance of horror films making their way onto the big screen this year, but the best is yet to come. Bring Her Back has been described as “the best horror film of 2025” and it will be released later this month. It is the second film from director brothers, Danny and Michael Philippou. The Australian supernatural horror film stars Billy Barratt, Sora Wong, Jonah Wren Phillips and Sally Hawkins.

Bring Her Back’s synopsis reads: “A brother and sister uncover a terrifying ritual at the secluded home of their new foster mother.”

Already released in Australia and North America, the film has been receiving high praise. Its 89% rating from the critics on Rotten Tomatoes reflects that. Their consensus reads: “A domestic nightmare that draws its most profound scares from Sally Hawkins’ deranged performance, Bring Her Back is an exemplary chiller that reaffirms directors Danny and Michael Philippou as modern masters of horror.”

One critic wrote in their review: “Danny and Michael Philippou have delivered a well-written thriller that is not afraid to double as a nasty horror. As filmmakers, they don’t hold back, and the result is a bloody ride for the audience laced with suspense and brilliant performances.”

“Sally Hawkins gives one of the best performances of the year in this superb horror film,” another added.

One reviewer on TikTok, by the name of cinema council, labelled the film as “the best horror film of 2025”.

He said: “It’s gritty and scary, but it’s also emotionally brutal.

“If you want to be disturbed and love horror go watch bring her back.”

The audience are also rating the film highly with a score of 79%. Their consensus reads: “Bring Her Back is a harrowing motion picture that may gut the bravest of horror buffs, reiterating that the Philippou brothers are here to slay.”

Bring Her Back will be released in cinemas on July 26.
