This beautiful city is one that’s not an obvious choice but it is the perfect place for a Christmas getaway.
Tallinn, in Estonia, has an incredible Christmas market and a great festive atmosphere.
The main feature of this market is its huge Nordic Christmas tree which has been its focal point since 1441.
You can try a range of drinks and snacks including mulled wine, cheeses, and traditional black pudding with sauerkraut while wandering the market’s stalls.
But the Christmas market isn’t the only place to see in the city – you can explore the Old Town which is known for its historic architecture and vibrant feel.
Its cobblestone streets are home to museums, shops, restaurants and bars – there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
One visitor on Tripadvisor said: “We give this a 5/5 for winter holiday. Everything that you need is walking distance – down a cobblestone road. There are so many cafes and restaurants and attractions that you see one every time that you turn your head.
“The Christmas Market is one of the best that we have been to, far better than Manchester UK’s markets. Everything is in Estonian/ English/ Russian.”
If you want to get out of the cold and head indoors, Kumu Art Museum hosts an impressive collection and is listed in Tripadvisor’s list of best things to do in Tallinn.
One visitor on Tripadvisor said: “This was an excellent art museum. There is a fair amount of modern art […] but there was also a great collection of Soviet era art and an even better collection of 19th and early 20th century Estonian art.
“There were a couple of good collections of Surrealist art too. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of art and presentation. It is a world class art museum, well worth visiting.”
To get to Tallinn from London, it takes around 2 hours and 45 minutes so visiting for the weekend is a feasible option.
If you’re looking for a Christmas break, Tallinn could be the perfect place for you.
