Looking for a spooky, seasonal read? High street and online retailer TGJones has compiled this list of spooky books that are perfect for starting your Halloween reading. From dark fantasy to suspenseful crime thrillers that will keep you on the edge of your seat, TGJones has a Halloween pick for all readers.

Dark fantasy debut novel, ‘Alchemised’ (£12.50 RRP £25.00) by SenLinYu is a spellbinding gothic book that makes the perfect seasonal read. This riveting debut follows Helena Marino, a once-promising alchemist. Now held captive by Paladia’s most feared necromancer, she has inexplicable memory loss. Her allies are dead, and she must fight to protect the secrets hidden in her mind. However, her captor has secrets of his own, which she must uncover. This dark fantasy novel is ideal for fans of the Gothic genre.

A romantasy (romantic fantasy) read perfect for Halloween is ‘Mate’ (£9.19 RRP £9.99) by Ali Hazelwood, author of best-sellers ‘The Love Hypothesis’, and ‘Bride’. ‘Mate’ is Hazelwood’s newest romantasy book which follows Serena Paris, a Human-Were hybrid. Being a hybrid has made her a target to Weres, Vampyres and Humans, and her one salvation is Alpha of the Northwest pack, Koen Alexander, who will keep her safe no matter what. This companion book to ‘Bride’ will have romantasy fans glued to the pages.

‘The Dead Romantics’ (£9.19 RRP £9.99) by Ashley Poston is a heart-warming romantic fantasy book with a paranormal element that makes it the perfect cosy romance read this Halloween. The story follows famous romance author Florence, who’s on a deadline to deliver a swoon-worthy book, but there’s one problem: she doesn’t believe in love anymore. After a breakup, Florence doesn’t know if she can meet her deadline, and new editor Benji Andor refuses to give her an extension. It’s only when Benji shows up at her door in ghost-form does a hauntingly romantic story begin to brew.

Crime and Thriller books are another fantastic genre to sink your teeth into this Halloween. TGJones has selected a few of the best crime and thriller novels that you can find on their website now. That includes mystery thriller novel, ‘The Secret of Secrets’ (£12.50 RRP £25.00) by Dan Brown, the sixth and latest title in the Robert Langdon series. This page-turning thriller follows Robert Langdon on his journey to Prague to attend a lecture, where a brutal murder takes place and Langdon finds himself the target of a powerful organisation.

Legendary crime author Martina Cole has a new crime book titled ‘No Regret’ (£23.00 RRP £25.00), which is now available to pre-order on the TGJones website. This book was published on October 7, 2025, making it the perfect suspenseful read for Halloween. The book is set in 1962 Soho, where Rory Sheehan has decided he wants Maggie Riley for his own, which triggers violence and gang rivalry. But Maggie is hiding a secret that could be her best weapon.

Josh Grisham’s new legal thriller ‘The Widow’ (£11.00 RRP £22.00) is available to pre-order now on the TGJones website. This new courtroom drama follows Lawyer Simon Latch, who is in desperate need of a payday after struggling with gambling issues, an impending divorce and debt. Luckily, Latch lands his richest client ever, but soon finds himself wrapped up in a crime he swears he didn’t commit. Not everything is as it seems in this new thriller that will captivate readers.

TGJones has also selected several Halloween books for children, including titles like ‘We’re Going on a Ghost Hunt’ (£3.99 RRP £7.99) by Martha Mumford, ‘Bluey: Bluey’s Halloween Mix-and-Match’ (£3.99 RRP £7.99) by Bluey, and ‘Disney Hocus Pocus the Illustrated Classic’ (£15.63 RRP £16.99) by Walt Disney. These spooky books are the perfect activity to keep young children entertained during the October half-term and Halloween weekend. ‘Bluey: Bluey’s Halloween Mix-and-Match’ is an interactive board book ideal for the youngest readers, allowing children to flip through 50 different characters from the hit series and mix and match their Halloween outfits. ‘We’re Going on a Ghost Hunt’ is perfect to read to little ones – lift the flaps to find the ghosts. Finally, the illustrated ‘Hocus Pocus’ is a novelisation of the classic film that readers of all ages can enjoy.

TGJones’ exciting range of Halloween books has something for every kind of reader. From dark fantasy to intense crime thrillers, there’s a spectacularly spooky read in store for everyone.
