The beautiful ‘crystal clear’ UK lake that ‘looks like the Maldives’ | Travel News | Travel

Brits have praised this stunning lake with crystal-clear waters that look like they’re located in a more tropical destination, but it’s actually in the UK. Britain’s recent heatwave inspired many people in the UK to get out and about to some of the best spots this country has to offer. The UK was hotter than many other parts of Europe, providing the perfect opportunity for people to have a pretend vacation in their own country.

One of the places that some people choose to flock to is a gorgeous lake that people can’t believe is actually in the UK. St Andrews Lake is located in Rochester, Kent. The lake attracts many visitors on hot days because of the water sports, swimming opportunities and sun loungers available. Visitors have had excellent things to say about this spot, with some calling it a must-visit destination to head to this summer.

One eye-catching part of the lake is its Maldives-style bungalows with balconies hovering just above the turquoise waters.

One TikTok user, @jo_uvl, showed off the “underrated” spot in a recent clip that went viral, receiving more than one million views and hundreds of comments. In the clip, she shows the crystal clear water and glimpses of the activities available.

“I actually cannot believe hidden gems like this exist in the UK,” she says in the short video. “I was so shocked. The lake was so clear.”

“Crystal clear lake and beach escape is a must this summer,” she said in the caption. She is not alone in praising this place, as many reviewers on sites like Tripadvisor have described the excellent days out they have had here.

The lake sits on the site of a former quarry and offers activities both on land and in the water for visitors of all ages. Things to do when visiting the lake include a zipline, paddleboarding, an inflatable aqua park with slides, sailing and archery.

There are also lakeside beaches on which you will find sun loungers to rent. Plus, there is a wellness centre which features a Nordic-inspired lakeside sauna, hot tubs and cold plunge lagoon, as well as self-catering barbecue cabins you can rent.

People have had positive things to say about their visits to St Andrew’s Lake. One Tripadvisor reviewer wrote: “Oh my gosh, yet another AMAZING holiday here at St Andrews Lake. This place is 100% recommended. Everyone is so friendly and helpful, the facilities are clean, the staff take such care in this place. The Wellness Centre, Mischicks, all of it is a must. Definitely back again next year.”

Another said: “We have been to the wellness centre a few times and it’s just brilliant and well worth the money. Something for everyone on site, young and old.”

The facility also offers stays, so many people make a weekend of it. One reviewer shared: “The accomodation Carp lodge was clean and well situated I think the most private of the lodges on the lake. No one can walk past. The beds are comfy and the wood fired hot tub great fun and with a view. We only found the bubbles button on last night it’s hidden at the back.”

Another wrote: “Took my son and 2 friends for his birthday. Zip wire, drop, climbing wall and the pedalo… Absolutely fantastic day. The staff were so friendly and engaging and very accommodating to change the times of our activities when requested.
Spent from 10am to 4pm on site. Pizza was incredible with great ice creams too. Toilet facilities were spotless. A great day to remember, thank you!”

Pricing for St Andrew’s Lake varies depending on which activities you book. All prices can be viewed on the lake’s website.
