Seamlessly blending the old with the new, Edinburgh is the perfect place to go for one looking to immerse themselves in a rich cultural heritage or a thriving arts scene.

This Spring, the city is more beautiful than ever, with its parks, gardens and green spaces bursting with flowers.

Heading into the Royal Botanic Garden, one can and oneself surrounded by beautiful blossoms of snowdrops, daffodils and crocuses.

Or take a stroll through The Meadows, marvelling at the gorgeous cherry blossom-lined walkways.

If you wish to take a wander through the historic streets, make sure head down The Royal Mile, which runs through the heart of the city’s Old Town.

Also leave time for a visit to the Grassmarket, a vibrant place located just below Edinburgh Castle.

It used to be marketplace that dates back to the 14th century, and is also notorious for its grim past as an execution site.

However, don’t let that put you off, as today it is known for its bustling atmosphere and is home to many pubs and boutiques.

If visiting with children, then what better place to go than the Edinburgh Science Festival, which runs for two weeks and includes a variety of exhibitions, events, workshops, performances, screenings and discussions.

Or, you can head to the Edinburgh International Children’s Festival, which has an abundance of circus, dance, storytelling and theatre.

If looking for something more laid-back, you should definitely head down the coast and stop in at Marine Fest at the Scottish Seabird Centre in North Berwick.

The festival celebrates the wonders of Scotland’s seas, and includes a Puffin Express boat trip.
