With autumn now in full swing, the balmy days of record-breakingly summer now behind us in the UK. But there are still a number of destinations enjoying warm summery temperatures in October, making them perfect for a post-summer getaway.

The Met Office gathered a number of destinations enjoying temperatures above 22C this month, including one just 3.5 to four hours away from Britain where the mercury rises up towards 30C. Marrakesh is one of Morocco’s four imperial cities, alongside Fez, Mekes and the capital Rabat.

It’s also the country’s most popular travel destination, known for the Medina which contains an array of market stalls known as souks.

The ancient site was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the mid 1980s.

Marrakesh also chock full of museums, art galleries, museums, stunning architecture, and parks. These include Jardin Majorelle, a botanical garden and artist’s landscape garden spread over one hectare.

“Despite the autumn season, October in Marrakech still sees highs of around 28.3C, eight hours of sunshine and around 22 mm of rainfall over the course of the month,” the national weather service says, adding that it also tends to see minimal cloud cover.

The city is a major economic centre, with real estate and hotel development having grown dramatically in the 21st century.

It’s particularly popular among French visitors, and numerous celebrities from the country have owned property in the city.

These include the likes of iconic fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent, who drew inspiration from the Marrakesh’s art, architecture and landscapes.

In its travel advice for Morocco, The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office warns of “country wide protests and demonstrations” that are “taking place in major cities across Morocco”.

“There are reports of significant police presence and rallies resulting in violent clashes. The situation remains unpredictable.

It advises visitors to avoid demonstrations and “large gatherings and follow the advice of local authorities”.

“Demonstrations may lead to travel disruption. Allow extra time for journeys and monitor local media for updates,” it adds. You can find the latest FCDO advice here.
