Cleaning your shower head is crucial but there’s one affordable item you can use which will do the job effectively.
When you’re cleaning your bathroom, you might overlook your shower head, but experts have suggested a simple method that will help you keep yours in top condition. You’ll want to make sure it’s clean for a range of reasons, from increasing its longevity to ensuring you’re not showering in any bacteria.
Check a Trade says: “Mineral and bacteria build up on your shower head can not only reduce water flow and give you a rubbish showering experience, but these factors can also be a source of skin irritation.”
It suggests using a few drops of washing-up liquid to clean your shower head. You can buy washing-up liquid for as little as £1 from Wilko or Asda, and it’s an item you’ll use again and again in your home.
While supermarkets and homeware stores alike are packed with all sorts of expensive solutions for cleaning bathrooms, including lots of shower shine, bathroom sparkle and grout busting sprays, fluids and other chemical based cleaners, you can’t beat washing up liquid.
Check a Trade says you should first turn the shower on to ensure it’s wet for cleaning. Then, turn it off and fill a bowl with warm water and washing-up liquid.
Next, use a damp cloth with the cleaning solution to wipe down your shower head. After this, it suggests: “Use an old toothbrush to clean the nozzles. Dip it in your cleaning solution and scrub the nozzles to remove any stubborn grime.”
Finally, rinse, dry and test your shower head which will look shiny and new.
