Tesco urgently recalls product over fears of horror ‘choking’ risk | UK | News

Tesco has urgently recalled issues of a children’s magazine over fears that a free toy could pose a choking hazard. Issue 419 of the Peppa Pig magazine featured a “gift” which included a key. A notice issued by manufacturer Story House Egmont said: “We were recently made aware that the key comes apart, creating a small part which can be a choking hazard to young children, particularly those under three years of age.

“Safety is of paramount importance to us, so we advise anyone who has this gift to dispose of it.” Customers were offered a refund and instructed to bin the product or sent it back to the manufacturer.

The affected magazine went on sale on September 17, 2025 and the batch number 2501462.

The Peppa Pig magazine “helps little ones explore their world along with Peppa and her friends”, according to Story House Egmont’s website.

It often features free toys on the cover such as themed play sets.

The publisher has assured customers that none of their other products have been affected by this recall.

The magazine was on sale for £5.99, and Tesco has confirmed customers will receive a full refund when they bring the faulty product in.

Tesco added: “If you’ve bought an affected product, please return it to a Tesco store where a full refund will be given. No receipt is required.”

In the UK, the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011 require toys for children under 36 months to be designed without small parts that can be detached.
