Supermarket giant Tesco has issued a warning to those who are buying a bottle of wine. While the sage advice of not drinking more than 14 units of alcohol per week rings true, there’s another consideration to be had. If you are being mindful of your drinking (and there’s plenty of reasons to be), then you may not finish off a bottle of red, white or rosé.
To clarify, one standard bottle of wine could contain between nine to 10 units of alcohol. But if you’re not planning on finishing off the wine in the next few days, pouring it away may seem like such a waste.
Many may not be aware that wine can go into the freezer, but Tesco issued a stark warning.
“Don’t freeze in the bottle,” Tesco stated, adding that the remnants of an opened bottle of wine could be stored safely in ice cube trays.
An alternative storage method is a freezer bag, should there be quite a bit of wine left over.
What to do with frozen wine
Leftover red wine could be added to Bolognese “for depth of flavour” whereas white wine could be added to risottos.
