Tesco has issued an urgent recall for its chicken Tsukune skewers, warning customers to return the product due to a labelling error. The supermarket giant stated that the use-by date of December 23 on the 8-pack skewers is incorrect and they are actually due to expire much earlier on December 10.
Helping to spread the word and avoid Brits falling ill, the Food Standards Agency amplified the recall notice on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The notice read: “If you’ve bought an affected product with batch code 241025, please don’t eat it. Instead, return it to a Tesco store where a full refund will be given.”
The mislabelling means the product is “unsafe to eat” past December 10, posing a potential “risk to health”.
Customers are urged to return the product as soon as possible or contact the Tesco Customer Service Team on 0800 505 555.
This comes after Tesco was forced to recall its own branded 200 gram Tzatziki Dip due to the potential presence of salmonella.
The bacteria was found in the product during routine testing, specifically impacting dip with the date code 24/11/24.
They cautioned: “If you’ve bought an affected product, please don’t eat it. Instead, return it to a Tesco store where a full refund will be given. No receipt is required.”
While salmonella cases have returned to pre-pandemic levels in the UK, 2024 has been a relatively mild year for the bacteria.
This is particularly noticeable when compared to 2022, which saw 11 outbreaks and over 130 people falling ill after eating contaminated Ferrero Kinder chocolates.
