Tesco has confirmed that its six-pint bottles of milk have been permanently removed from all UK stores, prompting disappointment among customers. Shoppers recently took to social media to question the disappearance of the large milk bottles. One user on X, formerly Twitter, asked Tesco directly: “Can I ask @Tesco why you don’t sell the six pints of milk anymore? Certainly not home delivery.”

The supermarket responded, confirming the product had been discontinued nationwide. A Tesco spokesperson replied: “Tesco British Whole Milk 3.408L, 6 Pints has been discontinued. I’m sorry for any disappointment.”

While the news may come as a surprise to some, Tesco actually phased out the product in 2023 in an effort to cut down on wastage.

A spokesperson explained: “We phased out six-pint bottles of milk back in 2023 to reduce wastage, as there were higher levels of waste on that product size.”

Despite the change, Tesco reassured customers that its four-pint bottles still offer the same great value per pint and that milk prices have been reduced twice in recent weeks.

Many customers have expressed frustration over the removal of the six-pint option, with some claiming it forces them to spend more by purchasing smaller bottles.

One social media user wrote, “I buy lots of milk, but it’s annoying having to pay more by purchasing four-pint bottles.” Another claimed Tesco was simply trying to “milk more money from customers with smaller cartons.”

Some shoppers have even suggested they might take their business elsewhere. One disgruntled customer said, “I’ll be shopping at Aldi from now on.”
