Terrifying moment man scales Piccadilly Circus statue sparking chaos and closures

This is the terrifying moment a man scaled a Piccadilly Circus statue in London, sparking an emergency response from police and firefighters who had to save him. In footage shared on X, formerly Twitter, by London & UK Street News, a fire service crane can be seen in operation on the busy Piccadilly Circus area.

The man had climbed up on top of the capital’s famous Eros statue, sparking a huge emergency response and cordon.

Stunned witnesses watched in horror as the crane towered above them and up to what appeared to be a man desperately holding on to a statue.

Crowds began to gather as they watched to see what happens next on Wednesday night.

According to the Metropolitan Police, the man scaled the landmark at around 6pm before eventually climbing down three hours later.

Within the footage, the crane is seen pulling up towards the statue and interacting with the man – who has not been identified.

Eventually, the footage ends with a bigger crowd gathering to watch on.

The BBC reported that two London Fire Brigade engines attended.

Meanwhile, the force added that as a result of the incident, a man was arrested on suspicion of public nuisance and criminal damage.

Some reports suggested that while up there the man even took out his phone and began scrolling through it.

As the authorities dealt with the incident, Piccadilly Circus Underground station was closed for more than an hour, the Daily Mail reports.
