Tefal’s £29 gadget ‘gets creases out of clothes with little effort’

When it comes to having a piece of equipment that will make life easier and clothes smoother, an iron is usually the first idea that pops into peoples heads. But steamers have become increasingly popular too, and they are known in particular for getting creases out quickly and without the hassle of needing a large bulky iron if you’re on the go.

Now, to save themselves both time and money, customers can grab the Tefal Pure Pop Slim Handheld Clothes Steamer for £29 down from £49.99 on Amazon – getting over 40% off on the purchase of the pink one. There are other colours available – with the yellow and coral also currently £29, and the green one costing more at £41.68 reduced from £49.99.

This steamer, which heats up in 15 seconds, is a small handheld gadget that gives a smooth refresh to clothes with the press of a button. Whether it’s to use at home or to pack into a suitcase for a holiday, the steamer can go anywhere, and it pumps out 20g of steam in one minute and also has a 70ml water tank.

It also features a reversible pad system making it easy to choose between a velvet side which is for steaming delicates safely, or a lint side which is for things such as removing pet hair and tougher fabrics from clothes. The steamer works both vertically or horizontally, depending on what item it is that is being steamed – if it’s refreshing clothes on the hanger then upright could be the ideal ichoice or if its collars and cuffs then laying flat is the one.

If this steamer isn’t for everyone however, the Russell Hobbs Steam Genie 2in1 Handheld Steamer with Iron is £40 from Argos which heats up in 60 seconds, kills up to 99.9% of bacteria in this time and has been designed to combine both a steaming and ironing feature with it’s shape. Another is the Travel Sage Clothes Steamer for £20 from Dunelm which has a compact design and a foldable handle making it a great choice for travel and storage. It also can heat up in 20 seconds and offers continous steam for wrinkle-free clothes.

The Tefal steamer has a 4.3 out of 5 star rating from almost 2,000 reviews on Amazon. One person said: “I really like this steamer, it heats up quickly and is easy to use. It easily gets creases out of clothes with little effort. It is also small and compact and not too heavy so great for taking in a suitcase, it really refreshes clothes and makes them look fresh and smart after packing. It works well on linen and linen mix items that have been heavily creased in a suitcase. The water chamber is small and does require refilling, this is a something I don’t mind as it means it is great for travelling. I recommended this to my sister and she also bought one and is very pleased.”

“I wish I’d bought one of these sooner – it’s completely changed the way I travel. No more creased clothes after unpacking my suitcase! It works just as well as a regular iron, smoothing out wrinkles quickly and easily. The value for the price is excellent, and the fast heat-up time means I’m ready to go in minutes. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to look sharp on the go,” said another.

Another reviewer said: “Love this, its so handy and lightweight to use. Great for travel and quick touch ups. Heat up quickly and is good value for money.”

Although the majority of reviews were high, some others disagreed as one said: “Decent enough but water capacity is awful. I can barely steam one item without having to re-fill. Not very pratical.”

“At the moment I cannot say if I will get used to this method of ironing – so cannot give a fair review. I find it difficult to angle it properly and the water filler is too small and consequently has to be topped up many times,” said another.

The Tefal Pure Pop Slim Handheld Clothes Steamer is available from Amazon.
