Detectives are investigating reports of a sexual assault on a teenage girl in Nottingham. The youngster was allegedly sexually assaulted in Goodliffe Street, New Basford, at about 8pm on Wednesday (September 17), according to Nottinghamshire Police.

The force said the teen got off a tram in Shipstone Street before being led down an alleyway and assaulted by an unknown male suspect. Police described him as white, around 17-years-old, of skinny build, between 5ft 9 and 5ft 10 tall with brunette or black hair.

Police said the suspect also reportedly had a moustache and goatee and was dressed in black clothing and wore white trainers.

Officers with specialist training have been offering support to the girl, according to Nottinghamshire Police. An area around Goodliffe Street was cordoned off while investigations took place.

Detectives have appealed to anyone with information to come forward immediately.

Det Cons Holly James from Nottinghamshire Police said: “As with all incidents of this nature, our priority has been the welfare of the victim.

“She is currently being supported by specially trained officers, while we continue to investigate what happened.

“We want to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of the tram stop in Shipstone Street or Goodliffe Street, around 8pm on Wednesday.

“We understand the concern incidents of this nature can cause and uniformed officers will be in the area to offer reassurance and support.”

She added: “We’re led to believe the suspect met with the victim after she got off the tram, so are confident there will have been other people around at the time.

“If that was you, we want to hear from you, and likewise anyone else who has any information that could assist our inquiries is asked to contact the police without delay.”
