Ted Lasso star worlds away from football comedy in 'heartbreaking weepie' coming soon

Ted Lasso favourite Brett Goldstein bears no resemblance to his legendary grumpy footballer Roy Kent in a deeply moving trailer for a forthcoming sci-fi drama picture.

Directed by Black Mirror’s William Bridges, who penned the screenplay alongside Goldstein, All Of You stars the actor opposite Imogen Poots in an epic romance spanning multiple decades.

Taking place in the near future, the Apple TV+ picture chronicles two university best mates who become estranged when one undergoes an examination promising to locate your perfect match.

Their journeys continue to intersect over time as they’re compelled to face their unvoiced emotions.

An official synopsis for the picture states: “Best friends since college, Simon (Goldstein) and Laura (Poots) drift apart when she takes a test that finds her soulmate despite years of unspoken feelings between them”, reports the Mirror.

“Over the years, as their paths cross and diverge, neither can deny the feeling that they’ve missed out on a life together.

“Faced with the uncertainty of changing the course of their lives, are Simon and Laura willing to risk everything to experience the love that had been between them all along, or should they accept their fate?”

The preview, unveiled this week, has already garnered enthusiastic reactions from admirers who are keen to witness the Ted Lasso star embracing a fresh character.

One supporter anticipated an outstanding display from the male lead: “Brett Goldstein’s ‘face acting’ is next level.

“He can perform an entire, silent dialogue with just one look. It’s so good to see him in a role like this.”

Meanwhile another joked: “It’s so weird to see Roy Kent be friendly and not growl every 5 seconds.”

For those who remain unconvinced by the heart-wrenching trailer, the picture has already garnered widespread praise following its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival last September.

The production currently boasts an outstanding 83 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with numerous reviewers cautioning audiences to prepare tissues beforehand.

Entertainment Weekly branded it a “weepie of the highest order”, stating: “It’s familiar fodder for romantic drama, but it’s of the highest caliber thanks to its sharp script and devastating central performances.

“Watching All of You is like pressing on a bruise, and ooh, baby, it hurts so good.”

Awards Buzz proclaimed: “Goldstein and Poots are both terrific and would certainly be deserving of Golden Globe nominations.”

Meanwhile Matt Neglia gushed: “ALL OF YOU just emotionally soothed and wrecked my heart.

“An aching adult drama about the choices we make, the regrets we feel, and whether or not we actually have soulmates out there for us in the world.

“I adore adult romantic dramas where the conflict doesn’t feel manufactured and the characters behave like adults. I got plenty of that here with two heartfelt and endearing performances from Brett Goldstein and Imogen Poots.”

Are you prepared for the heart-wrenching drama of All Of You?

There’s only a few weeks left before this poignant drama graces our screens.

All Of You premieres Friday, 26th September on Apple TV+.
