It doesn’t matter where you store your PlayStation 5, dust will always find its way into the machine. This dust can put your gaming console at risk of overheating, especially if you’ve allowed the dust and debris to accumulate over time.
To guard against this, a tech expert, who is known as @mouse_tech_uk on TikTok, has explained how to clean your PS5 without having to take it to a professional.
He said: “This is a great opportunity to show you how easy it is to keep on top of the dust build up in your PS5.”
He is seen laying a PS5 on its side so the white plastic panel is facing upwards. Gently pulling the panel up from the PlayStation symbol while simultaneously pushing the panel downwards, he is able to remove the plastic panel to reveal the back of the fan.
Then, he is seen removing the dust collected on the inside of the machine before flipping the machine over to do the same on the other side. He adds: “If you want to go a step further and clean the fan, gently lift the guard out of place and peel back the cover held on with adhesive to expose the fan’s connectors.
“I like to use the ends of two tweezers to gently wobble the connector out of place. Using a Torx T8 bit, you can remove the four screws holding the shield of the fan into place.
“Stating the obvious but make sure this is not connected to power when you’re doing this, and make sure you know where the four screws came out from because you need to make sure they go into the same place. Then you have easy access to clean the fan inside.”
Commenting on his video, one grateful user said: “Bro just save me from the long GTA loading screen.” Another user asked: “If my PS5 sounds like trtrtrtrtr is it broken or too dusty?” A third user said: “Pretty sure that’s mine – amazing service. Thanks again.”
However, The Gamer warns against using a hoover on your machine, instead saying you can brush the dust away with a paintbrush. Their warning reads: “Do not use a vacuum cleaner to clean your PS5. It can create static electricity that will irreparably damage your components.”
They also warned against using other cleaners on your machine, adding: “Harsh chemicals are a definite no-go. Things like alcohol-based cleaners, glass cleaners, or anything abrasive can damage your PS5’s finish and even harm its internal components. Stick to the basics, and your console will stay in pristine condition.”
