The UCLA women’s basketball team’s dominant national championship win on Sunday caught the attention of many — including pop star Tate McRae.
After some of the Bruins celebrated their big 79-51 victory over South Carolina by doing a synchronized dance to McRae’s hit, “Just Keep Watching,” the 22-year-old songstress made it clear she was, indeed, watching their action on the hardwood.
On her Instagram Stories on Monday, McRae shared a video of Charlisse Leger-Walker, Lauren Betts and Gabriela Jaquez’s choreographed moves and said she was a huge fan.
“Hahah love this,” the “exes” crooner wrote. “Congrats to the women’s basketball team.”
McRae added a fun emoji and then tagged the trio of dancing Bruins’ Instagram handles.
Leger-Walker, Betts and Jaquez first debuted the routine on March 3, during a UCLA men’s basketball matchup with Nebraska at Pauley Pavilion.
The women surprised the crowd in attendance by joining the university’s Spirit Squad, before they perfectly hit every move.
The three went on to perform the dance throughout March after every big NCAA tournament win they secured.
Head coach Cori Close said just days before their national championship win that she actually encouraged the team to dance and have fun whenever they could.
“I don’t think at any level, whether you’re in the WNBA Finals or you’re in the Final Four competing for a national championship, I think there’s still room for both (joy and tension),” she said. “And I hope we don’t ever lose sight that this is supposed to be a really fun, life-changing experience.”
