Taco Bell makes unprecedented menu change

Taco Bell is putting the power in the hands of its biggest fans, giving them the unprecedented opportunity to change the menu and add a global favorite to US menus nationwide.

The popular fast food restaurant is putting up two of its international fan favorites, the Kickin’ Chicken Taco from Thailand and the Butter Chicken Taco from India. In a head to head contest, fans can vote on which one will appear on the menu later this year, per a press release.

Contender number #1 comes from Thailand and is sure to get a lot of attention, with a mix of spicy cheese and sauce. It made its debut in that country in 2019, and “quickly became a standout,” per the release.

“A craveable combination of crispy chicken strips, lettuce, a blend of mozzarella, pepperjack, and cheddar cheeses, freshly prepared daily pico de gallo, and the unique Spicy Kickin’ sauce made with a blend of cheeses and flavorful spices, wrapped in a warm flour tortilla,” the brand said in a press release.

Contender #2 hails from India, and is definitely going to be a crowd pleaser with its bold spices and flavors. It debuted in 2023 as part of the “Desi Menu.”

“Inspired by one of India’s most popular dishes, this taco is filled with shredded slow-roasted chicken simmered in tomato cream-based sauce with bold spices and Indian-inspired flavors, and topped with onion and cilantro, lettuce, and cheddar cheese all wrapped in a fried chalupa shell,” the release added.

Starting March 26 through April 1, Taco Bell’s US Rewards Members can cast their vote daily on the Taco Bell app, making the ultimate decision for which tasty treat will appear, for a limited time, on the menu later this year.

“This vote is all about celebrating the creativity of Taco Bell menus around the world while bringing globally inspired flavors and innovations to U.S. fans,” Amy Ellis Durini, Chief Marketing & Strategy Officer, Taco Bell International said.

“Both tacos have already built passionate followings in their home countries, and now we’re giving U.S. fans the power to choose which one earns a spot on menus nationwide.”

You can start voting today by downloading the Taco Bell app and joining the brands Taco Bell Rewards to pick the one you want to see at your local eatery. 

Fans can vote daily, but only once a day.  The winner will be announced on April 2.

It is the third fan voting experience from Taco Bell, the release noted. Previous opportunities included fans getting to choose which formerly popular item on the menu would make its return, but this is the first time they are getting to choose which one will make its debut.

In 2022, the choice was between the Enchirito and the Double Decker Taco.  And in 2023, fans got to pick whether the Beefy Crunch Burrito or the Cool Ranch® Doritos® Locos Tacos would be making its comeback.
