Sydney earthquake live as Australia's Blue Mountains rocked by 3.6-magnitude quake

A huge 4.3-magnitude earthquake has struck miles from the centre of Sydney in Australia, with nearly 1,500 instantly feeling the ground tremor beneath them. The quake struck in the Warragamba area at around 8.53pm on Friday.

According to the Mail, The Bureau of Meteorology has confirmed there is no risk of a tsunami in the aftermath. Some families reported feeling “nothing like it before”, as the substantial shaking alerted thousands.

The quake was initially registered as 4.3 on the Richter scale, but has since been downgraded to 3.6 by Geoscience Australia.

The epicentre appears to have struck the Blue Mountains, a rural region to the west of the city. It’s a popular trip for tourists as it features waterfalls, guesthouses and gardens among hiking trails.

Katoomba is the major town of the area.
