Drake Maye has shown why he’s much more than a pocket passer of late.
The Patriots’ quarterback has been running like crazy of late, and he’ll have to do more of the same against this fearsome Seahawks defense if he wants to hoist the Lombardi Trophy on Sunday in Santa Clara, Calif.
During New England’s opening postseason bout against the Chargers, Maye ran for a season-high 66 yards, including a monster 37-yard run.
Two weeks later, Maye nearly outdid himself, rushing for 65 yards and a touchdown against the Broncos.
Part of this trend dates back to late in the regular season when he rushed for 40-plus yards in two of the Patriots’ final four games.
While Maye’s legs are a weapon, part of his run production has come out of necessity.
The Patriots’ offensive line has had a hard time stopping opposing pass rushes, allowing five sacks in each of their three playoff games.

Thus, Maye has gone scrambling.
It’ll be no different at Levi’s Stadium.
The Seahawks had 47 sacks in the regular season, which was tied for the seventh-most in the league, and a top-rated pass defense in terms of DVOA.
Betting on the NFL?
Rookie Will Campbell, in particular, has struggled during the postseason, and he’ll have to deal with one of the best edge rushers in the NFL, DeMarcus Lawrence, who had six sacks during the regular season.
Look for Maye to run himself out of trouble a ton in Sunday’s Super Bowl.
The play: Drake Maye Over 35.5 rushing yards (-110, BetRivers Sportsbook)
