With the cold winter set to continue, you may find yourself looking toward your 2025 holidays, and one destination is perfect if you’re looking for some winter sun.
Malta is one of Europe’s warmer destinations at this time of year. Its plenty of tourist attractions make it perfect for couples looking for a romantic break or families looking for a family-friendly getaway.
This Mediterranean island has an average February temperature of 16°C, making it one of Condé Nast Traveller’s recommendations for a February holiday.
Although February won’t be the hottest month, it will still be a warm and pleasant destination. You’ll make the most of this stunning island while avoiding the crowds of the busy summer season.
The travel experts at Condé Nast recommended Malta as a destination: “Malta basks in some of the balmiest temperatures of any European destination, so even winter brings short-sleeve weather ideal for exploring the island.
“While the beaches are Malta’s draw throughout the extended summer, the cooler months are all about culture and hitting personal-best step counts.”
Despite its small size Malta boasts three UNESCO World Heritage, including the Cultural Capital City of Valletta, the jaw-dropping Ħal-Saflieni Hypogeum, and seven magnificent Megalithic Temples.
Valetta is a must-visit for any holidaymakers in Malta. In 2018, Valetta was named the European Capital of Culture, and it’s easy to see why with its stunning architecture and the breathtaking Barrakka Gardens.
Valetta’s history goes back all the way to the 1500s when it was founded by the Knights of St John. It was later named Frenchman Jean Parisot de Valette, who succeeded in defending the island against an Ottoman invasion.
Malta is known for its stunning beaches, and while you may not be up for swimming during February, you can still enjoy some coastal strolls along the beaches, making sure not to miss the aptly named Pretty Bay.
And for those hoping for some history during their holiday, then be sure to visit the Ħal Tarxien Prehistoric Complex, where you can see the remains of temples dating back to 3,600.
While those travelling with children may want to check out Popeye Village, which was built for the 1979 film. Even those who haven’t seen the film can enjoy its massive lido, numerous water trampolines, and fun-filled boat trips.
Flights to Malta from the UK typically take three to four hours, so you’ll be enjoying the winter sun in no time, all while taking a break from the cold British weather.
