Place the affected white and stained clothes into a large bowl or bucket. Cover the clothes entirely with warm water.

Then add a one cup of hydrogen peroxide, this will help to brighten and disinfect the clothes. After this, add one cup of baking soda to the solution.

Chantel noted that this will help deodorise any lingering smells, but also help to brighten the white fabric. Baking soda can enhance the effectiveness of detergents, helping to brighten dull whites.

Hydrogen peroxide is a natural bleaching agent, meaning it will help brighten discoloured and dull white clothes. It will also help to disinfect any clothes that are hiding any nasties.

Clean Heart Maids explained that it’s perfect for using on tough stains. It wrote: “When applied to stains, it releases oxygen, which breaks down the chemical bonds in the stain’s molecules.

“This reaction lifts the stain, making it easier to wipe away.”

You can also add one last ingredient to the solution, however it is optional. Chantal added one teaspoon of washing up liquid.

This will help to lift any oil-based stains on the clothes. Let the clothes soak for 30 minutes in the solution, before placing the clothes in the washing machine and run on a normal cycle.

If you have some tougher stains, you could also make a paste with the baking soda and warm water, applying it to the affected areas as a spot treatment.
