Storm forecast as maps show exact time 50kph wind and rain will hit UK | Weather | News

Brits should make the most of the hot and sunny weather this weekend as temperatures are set to plummet dramatically in days. Heavy rain and strong winds are set to descend on the UK from the Atlantic, causing temperatures to drop by as much as 10C from the scorching highs the UK has been enjoying.

According to new weather maps by WXCharts, a large band of wet weather is set to arrive in the UK in early hours of Monday (July 14), bringing with it as much as 7-8mm/hr of rainfall in some areas. Much of the country will see between 0.2 and 1mm/hr of rain over the course of the day. But rain is not the only thing Brits will have to contend with – weather maps also show that strong winds are also set to arrive from Tuesday (Tuesday 15), with up to 50kph (31mph) gusts battering the west coast of the country.

While large parts of the UK will be baking under 34C this weekend, by Tuesday the majority of may need to reach for a jumper again as temperatures are only expected to reach a maximum of 21C, according to WXCharts on maps produced on Saturday (July 12).

The Midlands and Wales are set to see the coolest temperatures, with as low as 11C predicted in Yorkshire and 12C in Wales. While temperatures will hit the 20s in the south of the country, this is nothing like the temperatures witnessed this week.

The west of the country will be first in line for the barrage of rain, with cities like Liverpool and Blackpool to be hit first, having already struck across much of Northern Ireland. While the east coast of the UK will escape the deluge to begin with, this band of rain is set to sweep across the country.

The high winds are set to descend from Tuesday, according to WXCharts. High wind gusts of between 80 and 100kph are already expected to be blasting the Scottish Highlands, but the huge band bringing around 50kph will sweep in once daylight arrives on Tuesday.

For now, though, Brits can enjoy widespread hot, dry and sunny weather this weekend. Temperatures are expected to peak at 33 or even 34C on Saturday, with parts of the Midlands likely to see the highest temperatures, as they did on Thursday when 32C was reached at Ross-on-Wye.

On Friday, Met Office Chief Meteorologist, Steve Willington, said: “The current heatwave is more widespread than previous heatwaves this summer. Temperatures are likely to locally approach 30°C tomorrow (Saturday) over Northern Ireland and 31 or even 32°C over parts of Scotland, away from eastern coasts.

“Sunday looks like being a little cooler than Saturday, but 30°C is still likely across central and southern parts of England and eastern Wales, with locally 31°C possible.”
