‘Stop flying to Marbella and go to Spanish town with fewer tourists’ | Travel News | Travel

With only a month left of summer, some might be rushing to book a last minute holiday or start dreaming about where to go next year, with Spain remaining one of the most popular travel destinations for Brits.

While popular tourist cities like Benidorm, Barcelona and Marbella have seen locals protest the large numbers of tourists arriving each year, some hidden gems still remain less crowded – and they’re only a stonethrow away. But, if you’re wanting to experience something new, it can be overwhelming to decide on a destination you want to go to.

To help, one French holidaymaker named Marina has shared her “hidden-gem” destination for those wanting to enjoy Spain without the crowds.

One of the many lesser-known towns is Iznájar. Located in the province of Córdoba in Andalucia, southern Spain, the town has 4,960 inhabitants but still boasts a vibrant social life.

“One of the most beautiful villages of Spain,” Marina wrote on the video as she showed snippets of her visit.

Walking along the cobblestone streets in a bright yellow dress, Marina showed the white buildings that were covered in blue plant points, making it reminicent of Santorini in Greece.

This area in question is called Patio de las Comedias, which is a tapas restaurant that is located in the middle of the town, closeby to the local castle.

She then showed the view from a viewpoint which displayed rows and rows of more picturesque white buildings with fields of olives further away. Olive picking is one of the main sorces of economy for Iznájar, although tourism is becoming increasingly popular.

If you want to enjoy the Spanish nature, Marina also showed off the Iznajar Reservoir that surrounds the town, which is the largest in the whole of Andalucía, and becomes a popular destination throughout the warm season as a “beach.”

If you don’t want to spend your whole holiday in a small town, you’ll be happy to know that it’s located just a one hour drive away from exciting Marbella for when you crave a city break.

It’s also easy to visit if you’re flying in from a different country, as Marbella airport is the closest one to the historic town.

Several people quickly took to the comment section, with many saying they’d love to visit for their next holiday.

“Stunning! Love all the colour,” one person commented, while a second person said: “Love! My favourite was Frigiliana.”

“We couldn’t love Spain more, and there are so many gorgeous Pueblos to discover,” another user said.
