Sting has shared updates on the status of one of his friends after they suffered a cardiac arrest live on stage. The multi-award-winning musician appeared on the Pier Head stage on Sunday evening finish off the four-day music extravaganza, On The Waterfront.

However, his set began with him relaying to fans the harrowing events that had suspended festivities a few hours prior.

The Christians were performing their afternoon gig when suddenly one of the band’s members collapsed, leading to immediate alarm and an abrupt cessation of their act.

Witnesses recounted how lead singer Garry Christian made an urgent plea for medical assistance onstage. A screen was rapidly put up around the stricken band member to give them privacy as concert-goers observed the tense rescue effort in hushed concern.

A representative for the band – believed to be their manager, Emma Bridget – soon provided an anxious crowd with grave news. She verified that the band member had experienced cardiac arrest but was fortunately still alive, reports the Mirror.

“We’re really hoping he is going to make it,” she declared to the audience. “He didn’t have a pulse, he’s got one now, we think. Thank you so much.”

In the wake of the unsettling episode, The Christians are said to have shown enormous spirit, urging Sting to continue with his planned headliner show, giving him their complete backing.

Upon gracing the stage, Sting took a moment to address the audience with sombre news about the preceding band’s drummer: “The drummer in the band before is OK. He’s in hospital. All of us are praying he’s going to be fine. Our thoughts are with him.”

The iconic singer’s heartfelt acknowledgment was a notable emotion-tinged moment, marking his first performance in Liverpool since the late ’70s.

Embracing the musical heritage of the city, the distinguished artist expressed his sentiments, adding: “I apologise. I don’t know what kept me. I’m happy to be in this historic music city. The most historic music city in the world for obvious reasons.”

Hailing from Wallsend, North Tyneside, Sting shared a touch of nostalgia, commenting on Liverpool’s resemblance to his own roots prior to his performance.

His concert concluded the 2025 On The Waterfront festival, which featured a series of performances at the renowned Merseyside venue by acts that included The Wombats, The Wolfe Tones, and Cream Classical Ibiza.

To date, there have been no new updates on the state of health of The Christians’ drummer.
