Stephen King names favourite of his own books – and it's not The Shining or IT

Stephen King is an author who’s written countless critically acclaimed books with fans citing certain ones as their favourite – and he has shared which one he likes the most. Some of King’s most famous novels include The Shining, It, Doctor Sleep, Carrie, Misery and Pet Cemetery.

The author was born in 1947, in Portland, Maine, and has become a literary giant known for his mastery of horror, suspense and fantasy. With over 60 novels and 350 million copies sold worldwide, King has left a mark on the world of literature. In 2023, King gave his typewriter a momentary rest to host a Q&A session on Reddit promoting the then-new TV series based on his 2009 sci-fi book, Under the Dome, reports Far Out Magazine.

For several hours, King’s fanbase flocked to pose their questions, one of which was, “Which of your novels would you say is your favourite?”

While the author has answered this question several times in the past, his answers have often changed over the years. On this occasion, King replied concisely saying Lisey’s story was his top choice.

The story follows Lisey Landon, the widow of a famous author named Scott who was fatally shot by an obsessed fan.

As the plot thickens, Lisey starts to unearth some darkness in her husband’s family history.

King said all of his books are his favourites but that Lisey’s story was special to him.

The author held onto the rights for the story and put off adaptations as he wanted to be involved in the process of putting this tale on the screen.

He said: “I would never have gotten involved with this thing at my age if it wasn’t. You know, they’re all my favourites.

“I love them all. Some of them are difficult children to love, some of them a little bit easier.

“This is a little bit difficult to love, but I’ve always loved the story, and that’s the reason I got involved.”

King is an author who is well-loved by filmmakers – he has had many of his novels adapted to the screen and this has only added to his popularity as a writer.
