A touching 9/11 legacy is going on tour this summer.
A steel beam recovered from the rubble of the World Trade Center will be driven around the country ahead of the 25th anniversary of the tragedy in part to help enlighten kids who weren’t alive at the time.
The emotional coast-to-coast commemoration was dreamed up by Tunnel to Towers Foundation CEO Frank Siller as a way to honor his fallen FDNY brother Stephen, who raced to the WTC from Red Hook through the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel on Sept. 11, 2001.
“This steel has the soul of my brother in it. If we brought that around, people could experience it and touch it and feel it and just realize the sacrifice that was made,” Siller told The Post.
The “sacred artifact” is a 26-foot-long, 16,000-pound steel beam recovered from the rubble of the South Tower after the worst terror attack on US soil.
It has spent the past 25 years in Siller’s private possession, alongside other artifacts from the terror attacks such as a police patrol car.
The “Steel Across America” tour will kick off May 2 near Ground Zero and cover more than 10,500 miles before returning back to the hallowed Downtown Manhattan grounds Sept. 11.
The steel — traveling in a box truck — will make more than 35 stops at major landmarks across the country, including the Mt. Rushmore National Memorial, the USS Arizona Memorial Gardens and the Space Center Houston.
Siller recently met with President Trump, who promised that Tunnel To Towers could also park the steel beam on the White House South Lawn for a private viewing event.
All visitors will be invited to lay their hands on the massive steel beam, which Siller said will ignite a deep, emotional experience.
“I’m expecting them to feel the loss that was there. I want them to touch it and say a prayer for all the families that lost somebody,” he said.
“People are not going to experience in their life to touch a piece of steel that was part of one of the towers that came down. It is an experience that later on in life they will explain to their children or grandchildren and so on and so forth that they were able to be there for the 25th to honor in their small way.”
A major goal of the tour is to educate America’s youth, who might be too young to comprehend the sacrifice and heartbreak that the tragedy wrought before they were born, he said.
The steel will be escorted by 9/11 first responders who survived the tragedy, as well as family members who lost their brave loved ones, to share their stories.
“The further we get away from Sept. 11, 2001, the more that people are forgetting. And a lot of people who are 25 and under, they weren’t even born at that time,” Siller said.
Siller said his brother’s youngest son, Stephen Jr., will be among the speakers on the tour to talk about his father’s infamous race toward his death that day.
“He’ll be at almost all the stops speaking about the sacrifices his family made. His dad left behind his wife and five kids. They’re all doing excellent, and that’s part of the story.”
The tour is just one of several commemorative events the foundation has planned for the 25th anniversary.
The organization — which has paid thousands of mortgages for families who lost a member in the line of duty — is on track to pay for 343 homes this year, one for every firefighter who was killed on 9/11.
It’s too early to tell where the steel beam will wind up after the tour, but Siller said he hopes to one day have it on public display as proof of the sacrifice made that day.
