Steam Deck rival ROG Ally sees huge price cut during Amazon Prime Day

Gamers rejoice—Amazon Prime Day is here, and while there are plenty of tasty deals to be snapped up, there’s one in particular that we just can’t resist sharing.

The Steam Deck rival, the ROG Ally is currently on sale for one of the cheapest prices we’ve seen for the past year. It is currently £399.99 on Amazon – and we doubt it is going to stay in stock for much longer.

The ROG Ally is Asus’ Windows 11 gaming powerhouse, which allows gamers to play all their favourite games on the go. The ROG Ally comes with the AMD Ryzen Z1 chip and can boost framerates while retaining excellent image quality.

It has a 120Hz refresh rate screen and FreeSync Premium installed. For those with battery life concerns, it has an 80Wh battery supply built-in for longer gaming sessions.

When you compare it to the Steam Deck, as our friends over at IGN did, the ROG Ally has a better resolution, screen, and storage than its rival, and it even weighs less. When it comes to gaming, it trumps the Steam Deck in terms of performance.

But because of all that power in the ROG Ally, battery life tends to be weaker, meaning depending on what game you decide to play, you might get an hour of playtime without needing to plug it back into the wall to charge.

It’s also super useful for those with Xbox Game Pass to allow them to download or stream games onto the ROG Ally. Steam Deck users can do this but it does require a bit of fiddling to get it working.

Of course part of the recent for the hefty discount from the ROG Ally’s £699 RRP is that, following its recent launch, many gamers in the market for a handheld are turning to the Nintendo Switch 2. The console has come back into stock recently on Currys. It’s the newest console by Nintendo and boasts more power and a better screen – and it’s cheaper than the PS5 Pro. For those who don’t want to upgrade, Very has a deal on the digital PS5 here for £389. It’s a slimmer and sleeker version of the original PS5, but be warned, as it doesn’t have a disc drive.

Our friends over at the Daily Mirror reviewed the ROG Ally way back in 2023. They said: “Asus made claims that its Asus ROG Ally would bring double the performance of the Steam Deck to the table, and despite that not quite ringing true in my testing, it easily came out on top.

“The Asus ROG Ally has taken the philosophy of Valve’s Steam Deck and turned the dial up to 11 in every aspect. It’s not perfect, it certainly has its flaws, but the Ally offers an unprecedented handheld gaming experience. If you’re after the best-performing gaming handheld, this is what you’re looking for.”
