A job advert for 4 housekeepers to work at number 10 has been ridiculed by members of the Conservative party.

The job is believed to be located in the working building, the workplace of dozens of civil servants, rather than the PM’s flat where he and his family live.

The Prime Minister vowed to clean up politics throughout the general election and seemingly, one Tory party source was unable to pass up on the opportunity to point out the irony.

They told the Mail: “It’s ridiculous that Keir Starmer needs so many housekeepers when he’s always jetting off and hardly ever in No 10.

“This is yet another example of Starmer frittering away taxpayers’ money.”

Downing Street sources have insisted that the positions are not new and that they are seeking to replace staff who have left or have retired.

The role offers a salary of £30,135, more than £10,000 more than the average salary for a housekeeper according to Total Jobs.

Additionally, the successful applicant will receive 25 days holiday per year and a Civil Service pension.

The job description states: “As a Downing Street Housekeeper you will be responsible for delivering a safe and compliant cleaning services on time whilst providing a leading customer experience to a high-profile site.

“Strong attention to detail, whilst maintaining excellent working relationships with all building users is an integral part of this role.”

Key responsibilities include supporting any key events, highlighting and reporting maintenance issues and a willingness to deal with individual customer requests.

All applicants must be able to obtain ‘SC’ security clearance which usually requires living in the UK for the past five years, have a Criminal Record Check and be screened against the Internal Fraud Database.
