Forget grabbing organic produce, some Angelenos had much stranger items on their shopping list Thursday night.
A crowd gathered outside Laurel Supply, the bougie grocery store that offers organic and prepared-food on Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood, where a group of Spider-Man impersonators turned the sidewalk into a comic book-inspired kissing booth, according to Weho Times.
The unusual stunt invited passersby to recreate one of the most iconic moments from the Spider-Man franchise, the upside-down kiss. But for anyone not feeling particularly romantic, there was another option, giving the web-slinger a playful slap instead.
So, the question of the night became: kiss or smack?
The activation was organized by the stunt and comedy creators behind @fullsquadgaming, who said they wanted to celebrate the release of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” which officially swings into theaters Friday.
Videos from the event showed people eagerly lining up to lock lips with the upside-down superheroes, while others laughed, posed for photos and opted for the less affectionate route with a quick swat.
Naturally, the internet had plenty to say.
“This is insane I love it,” one social media user wrote after watching footage of the kissing booth.
Others were a bit more bewildered.
“Omg…this is crazy!! Ha who would do this??” another commenter asked.
One viewer wasn’t interested in joining the line at all, joking, “God please never let ppl who make out with random strangers find me.”

Whether people found the stunt hilarious or horrifying, it certainly accomplished its mission of getting fans talking ahead of the movie’s debut.
The latest chapter in Peter Parker’s story follows Spider-Man as he patrols New York in a world that no longer remembers who he is, per Marvel. As his old friends move on with their lives, Peter faces unexpected personal challenges while confronting a mysterious new villain unlike any he’s encountered before.
Moviegoers also appear to be embracing the fresh installment.
According to Deadline, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” pulled in an estimated $72 million in preview screenings, surpassing the previous domestic preview record of roughly $60 million set by “Avengers: Endgame.”
The outlet also reported that late-night walk-up ticket sales dramatically boosted the total, while PostTrak audiences awarded the film top marks, with five-star ratings from general audiences, parents and children under 12.
If the West Hollywood kissing booth is any indication, Spider-Man fans are willing to go to some pretty spectacular lengths to celebrate opening day, even if it means puckering up with a stranger hanging upside down outside the grocery store.
