Calo des Moro is one of Majorca’s hidden gems, located 3.7 miles from the nearest town Santanyi.
Lying on the southeast corner of the Balearic Island, it’s tucked deep within a bay and framed by steep cliffs, containing a relatively narrow but gorgeous strip of sand.
Travel blog Life is a Beach Cocktail describes the secret spot as “one of the most famous beaches in Majorca”, adding that its “white sand and great rocks, combined with turquoise water, take you immediately to the Maldives”.
The Maldives, a tiny archipelagic state in South Asia in the Indian Ocean, is held up among sunseekers as a paragon of coastal beauty, with crystal clear waters and sprawling coral reefs.
However, it’s not the most accessible of the area’s beaches, and getting to the makeshift car park close by requires driving along a dirt road atop a cliff.
SeeMallorca.com reassures visitors not to be put off by the “private property” tourist enounter, as while the “the cala [creek] is privately owned” it is “open to the public”.
However, while it’s only a “short walk but to get down to the sea” but beachgoers “need to be agile, as the descent is a little precarious”, with only “outcrops of sandy rock” and no stairs, the outlet adds.
There are also no facilities or restaurants nearby, meaning you will have to pack well ahead of time to get the most out of your visit.
Additionally, the beach doesn’t have lifeguards, so extra care should be taken in the water, especially if you have children with you, Mallorca Info warns.
The nearest small resort is Cala Santanyi, which has some hotels and is located some 6 kilometres northeast, as per See Mallorca.
The Pinos Playa hotel has a great location that overlooks the Cala Santanyi bay, making it a popular base for people visiting to enjoy the lesser-known spot.
